Hi William,
Couldn't help butting in !
-> Hi there Michael. Do you really have a problem with your platy's
-> breeding that much? What do you have in your tank, or what do you
-> do, that has them breeding left and right? While it is apparently a
-> problem for you, I'd like to get the same thing happening here. So
-> far, we haven't had anything breed. William
My mom-in-law has a 20 gal. community tank, with all types of fishes,
live-bearing, egg-laying, etc., and her live-bearers all go NUTS
constantly! Between the guppies, the platys, and the swords, she's got
probably 150+ babies at any given time! She keeps the babies in a
seperate 10 gal. tank, once they're born.
Her trick, as far as I know, is keeping the temp up just a bit, around
78, and the ph pretty steady at 6.4 (I know, it's supposed to be higher
for live-bearers, but.... it works for her). I don't have a clue past
that what makes her so lucky, but... I hope this helps.
