subject: Military Eager To Gather Data

Hi George...

SA> "Military Eager to Use Technology for Gathering Data"
SA> Federal Times (12/15/03) Vol. 39, No. 46, P. 14; Matthews, William

SA> wants the Pentagon to make "universal situational awareness" and
SA> worldwide "persistent surveillance" a reality within the next 10
SA> years through the deployment of space-based radars, better
SA> intelligence communications to troops in the field, and faster
SA> analysis.

GP> One should remember that the internet started life as a US DOD project
GP> -- do they EVER let go of that information/control they ever get
GP> hold of? (even if Congress itself demands they let go, they have
GP> the power to claim that they have special privilege on the basis
GP> of "national security"!) :|

Through DARPA's "LifeLog" program, they want every aspect of a person's
life recorded in a database - indexed, and searchable, ranging from
emails sent or received, every web page surfed, every phone call, every
TV show watched to GPS transmitter to track movements & sensors to
monitor health, and more.

GP> I think most of us in here know about the overseas long distance
GP> monitoring("mining"?) done post-WW II by the USDOD, eh? :|

GP> That's old hat to them now -- the Internet has come into its own,and it
GP> appears that Gates has his old security wish of a camera on every street
GP> corner & in every home!) :|

And a chip implant in every hand?

Cheers, Steve..
