Our do the same, except you don't need to re-patch anything if a user
moves. Just move the phone. Boots up, and it's the same extension as it
was in the other office. Our directory displays on the phone. I've used
both styles, and actually I prefer the current model. At the studio when
the new owners bought it in 1999, put in a new phone system. It was jack
centric. That system used a T-1 as well, I don't remember the brand, but I
do remember having huge problems with it, and it taking 10 minutes to boot
from a cold start. We had 2 satellite systems connected in other
buildings, by T-1's, and if either of the others went down, or a T burped,
the whole damn system crashed. They spent 80k for that beast, and after 2
years it was still a mess.
