* EleBBS Support List

I had problems with passing the server_args to the telnet daemon, This
is due to telnet requiring validated password/login programs. Elebbs
is not a "valid" login system according to the new telnet. use this as
your telnetd script (usually located in /etc/xinet.d

#-File Start#
service telnet
{
        socket_type     = stream
        wait            = no
        user            = root
        #server          = /home/bbs/startbbs.sh
        server          = /usr/sbin/in.telnetd
        #server_args    = -L /home/bbs/startbbs.sh
        #log_on_failure  = USERID
        disable         = no
}
#--File Stop--

you will have to adjust your paths if your files are located in
different places.

#--Start startbbs.sh--
#!/bin/bash
cd /home/bbs
./elebbs -N-1
#--End startbbs.sh--

again you must adjust your paths to where your files are actually located.
chmod the file to make it executable

the use that you created to run the bbs on (usually bbs) If you havn't
created a seperate bbs user do so now. In the home directory
edit/create the file ".profile" yes there is a dot in front of the
profile. This signifies that it is a HIDDEN file. only will be
visible is you do a ls -a. Once you have a user created, restart
xinet or server and test telnet. If you can log on with your bbs user
so far so good. No place this file in your bbs users home (usually
/home/bbs)

#--start .profile--
#!/bin/sh
        #
        # Sample .profile
        #
./startbbs.sh
logout
exit
#--end file

If your paths are correct, this will cause the bbs to launch the
second the bbs user logs into system. This is a way around the
enhanced security that is being built into the linux systems. To
bypass security will require many more changes.

note you will have to change ownership of the bbs directory to the BBS
user. this can be done by. (I believe you have yours in /ele
directory)

chown bbs:users /ele -Rv

captial R is important. That tell the command to Recurisvly dive down
into the sub directories and fix them as well. v say we want to view
what it's doing. I prefer to always see the progress of anything I
do.
