Tom, I used to feel the same way as you and August, maybe even
moreso -- I went straight from DOS to OS/2, and only then
ventured into Windows territory. But I have to admit, after
using Win95 exclusively for the past few months, I'm starting
to like it.
Of course, I might have learned to like it sooner, but every
time I tried it before, I dropped it after it started
crashing and/or hanging regularly. It took me awhile, but I
seem to have a reasonably stable setup now -- only minor
problems for over a month now. And no, I don't know why it's
behaving better now, unless it's the fact that I haven't
loaded it with a lot of utility software that runs on startup.

Yep, that'll work!
Myself, I've become somewhat fond of Windows Explorer -- it
has some features of both Program manager and File Manager,
and it just feels right to me. I also like being able to put
icons for my most-used apps on the desktop, ready to start
with a double-click. OTOH, I prefer Netscape Navigator to
MS Internet Explorer, and I don't care at all for MS's idea
to make the entire GUI work like a Web browser; this could
keep me from going to Win98 immediately, even if it turns out
to be much better otherwise than Win95.
I'm about to put myself to the ultimate test. I'll reinstall
OS/2 (Warp 3) alongside Win95, and see which one fits my
personal preferences better. Once I'm able to shift mental
gears between those two, I intend to try Linux as well.
Quite a lot to handle with a 486DX4 machine...and a Mk. I
human brain with occasional memory-errors.
... All taglines are busy. One will be with you shortly...
