I was lucky enough to find an old, obsolete securirty console that uses 
a 12v power supply and uses a 1.2mAH backup battery.  This works quite well
serving as the main power supply and then will automatically switch over
to battery when needed.  Check with some local security dealers to see what
the have taken in on trade.  Just make sure the power supply and charging
circuits are in working order.
