Lighten up a little,a particular vernacular does not necessarily
indicate disrespect. What it means is that we've developed a language all our
own, often as a mechanism to deal with all the crap we have to deal with.
I've also noticed that the
contempt for older folks usually comes from the younger people in EMS
ho are so full of pee and vinegar and only want to run "good" calls and
consider NH calls below their dignity. Well just because I've referred to
older patients as "squeezers"
or "raisins" doesn't mean I don't respect them. What it does mean is
that I tend to be at times rather expressive in my speech and word choice is
important in conveying a particular image when telling a story. How a person
interacts with a patient
is more important than how they refer to them after the fact.
