Glad you finally got to talk with him. Good instructor & businessman.
Got back last night from an 8 day stay on Guana Cay in the Abaco region
of the Bahamas. WX was dismal & cool for Sat Sun Mon& Tues with heavy wind
and
surf over the reefs so I walked 75 yards the other direction & snorkled on
the
sheltered (and colder) side of the Cay. The inner reef is shallow (20 feet)
with many different corals and we did that on Wed. A half dozen stingrays
were sheltering in the sand below the reef with an aquarium of fish large
and small giving a dazzling display. Water temp was 74 with 45 foot viz.
Thursday was more snorkling for dinner ... 3 lobster & a grouper. Friday we
went to a Bahamian reserve at Fowl Cay. There were supposed to be three
moorings but we found no trace and anchored in the sand. Nice but very
ittle
in the way of aquatic life and the reef was heavily silted. There were
however several schools of baracuda observing us from a distance.
Went back to Guana to try another section of the reef there with spectacular
results. Spotted eagle rays escorted us throughout the dive including one
local favorite named "stumpy" because he has no tail. Several turtles, many
fish and a nurse shark rounded out the day before we dropped the tanks on
the beach and snagged several more lobster for dinner. Our hearts went out
to those in colder climes we saw on the satelite feed of CNN.
It's amazing what 12 little hours can do to your mental attitude. One time
you are sitting on a dock looking out over the boats while enjoying the
eighty degree sunshine and sipping a rum & tonic and then you are dragged
back to harsh reality wishing for a hot cup of coffee while scraping
freezing rain from the windshield. Oh well, is the atlantic still under 35
 degrees?
