DD> The potential immigrant's race or nationality
DD> shouldn't enter into the equation.

RS> Dunno, you can possibly make a case for being selective in the sense
RS> that some are much better value than others. Hard to see that illiterate
RS> peasants from the middle east and places that are essentially riddled
RS> with mindless bastardry like the Lebanon are worth the trouble.

DD> Do we (you) want illiterate peasants from _any_ country?

Sometimes we do need a few, most obviously to do stuff we
dont care to do. They can be pretty energetic some of them.

Many countrys do allow some illiterate peasants in to do the
dirty work. Often they wouldnt dream of giving them citizenship tho.

DD> If they have something to offer, and we (the residents of Australia)

RS> Soorree, residents dont get any say. Citizens do.

DD> require that something - let them in.

RS> Pity that hardly any NZers would get in on that basis.

PE> Yeah, good point. We've got a special deal that
PE> let's NZers over here any time they want. We don't
PE> for Britain etc. Do you want us to take away NZ's deal?

DD> NZ has the same deal for Australians going there.

Doesnt mean its anything like your original 'If they have something
to offer, and we require that something - let them in' Tho.

DD> It doesn't matter what deals they come up with/drop, I am already here.

Completely irrelevant when discussing how we should do things
now. We imported lots of illiterate peasants from europe when we
had a labor shortage and we're stuck with most of those now too.

DD> If a push comes to a shove and they insist on citizenship,
DD> I will make the move (can't see any point other than that).

Maybe we cant see the point in letting you stay consuming a job
either. Its not as if you have anything that we actually need.
