   It's a potential problem with any application that tries to "clean" =
your system. Search the internet for "netsh winsock reset" and
you will = find people describing the fix for all sorts of problems with =
anti-spyware apps like AdAware and SpyBot and even some AV apps. That =
there is a command to clean up is all that distinguishes this from many =
other problems that result when spyware or viruses reconfigure your =
system so that it doesn't work if they are removed.

  Agreed. I assumed the problem was also in the GIANT version of =
antispyware. Looking at the MS antispyware groups it looks like a few =
people were bit when their PCs were cleansed. I thought it worthwhile to =
pass along the info.

       This is not new to Microsoft AntiSpyware. See =

      FWIW

       It appears that some individuals that have installed the beta of =
MS=20
      antispyware and were infected with spyware on XP sp2 have =
network related=20
      problems ( windows firewall cannot be enabled, can't connect to =

      etc ). MS has a resolution in kb 892350

      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350

      CAUSE
      There are known spyware programs that install layered service =
providers=20
      (LSPs) on client computers to gather user data. When Windows =
AntiSpyware=20
      (Beta) removes spyware programs, it also removes the spyware-based =
LSPs.=20
      However, Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) does not restore any LSPs =
after it=20
      removes the spyware.

      To resolve this problem if you are running Microsoft Windows XP =
Service Pack=20
      2 (SP2), follow these steps:

      1. Rebuild the Winsock LSP chain. To do this, follow these steps:

      a. Log on to the Microsoft Windows XP workstation as an =
administrator.
      b. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
      c. At the command prompt, type the following, and then press =
ENTER:

      netsh Winsock reset

      When the program is finished, you will receive the following =
message:
      Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the =
machine in=20
      order to complete the reset.
