Howsomever neither was it that they were actually lovers in the
carnal sense, IIRC (admittedly not having my "pilot" tape handy
right this red-hot nanosecond ). I do however recall the
interchange of "This is another one of those 'love me, love my
dog' things, isn't it?" & the answer being yes, which sounded
pretty much like the relationship two mature (as in the "middle
aged-actually grown-up-&-having-some-actual-*sense*" sense )
people might well be assumed to have. I also tend to doubt that in
the enlightened (i.e., TNG/VOYAGER era) era that SF would be in
the habit of giving starship command to openly flagrant extra-
marital twerps, unless, of course, the intentions were the
proverbial honorable. };)
