| subject: | EleBBS: Ele/Linux questions again... |
* EleBBS Support List Sorry, Linux has a much harder learning curve than windows does. When I first started running ele/32, I was a menace to the mailing list and I probably will be again... Wow. I'd guess I need to pick up a linux book, I really didn't understand most of that. Can I have linux do all the work and then run dosemu? Can I do like I do with windows (with the help of netfoss) and use the same com port multiple times without conflict for dos doors (I'd like to run 20 nodes all on the same comport)? I don't have any unix doors. I'm moving to linux SOLELY for the ability to run dos doors. I've got xp64 and it refuses to run 16bit software. Mike has been helping with FAQs, so I think I can do it, I'm just at a loss as how to start ele in the first place. I was thinking I'd need to use modemu so I could run those doors (like my long ago com/ip days), but now I'm not sure. I'll have to read those docs again. Does anyone have a generic faq for running linux bbs'? I've got one on configuring ele, 2 on running dos doors, but none really hit the meat of the matter, which is getting the bbs to answer calls or if I should just run the telnet daemon. I know you tried below, but that's all stuff that's beyond my current level of linux knowledge :(. -----Original Message----- From: scott [mailto:elebbs2{at}slittle.com] Sent: Friday, April 28, 2006 4:47 PM To: elebbs{at}thebbs.org Subject: Re: EleBBS: I feel stupid... * EleBBS Support List > I can't remember how to start up the WFC screen for elebbs nodes. If you're running EleBBS/Linux, have mgetty answer your lines, and either have it run EleBBS directly or set up a normal Unix account so that Ele runs automatically at logon. > can run eleserv -telnet Add EleBBS to inetd.conf, and/or the above Unix account. > or if I need to use modemu if I'll be using dosemu for all of my doors. modemu is only needed for programs that expect to be talking to a modem. Unix doors, like any normal unix program, should be talking to stdio. DOS doors will be talking to DOSEMU's COM port, which will be redirected to stdio using DOSEMU's virtual port driver. > installed, but finally got it there. Now I'm having problems (permission > related; I'll probably su and then copy them over) chown everything to a BBS admin account, and run everything from that. > Oh, as a last question for now, does anyone know how to use email > verification under linux? Should I dosemu blat, or is there some other > way to do this? This can be easily scripted if you run a mail server, otherwise I don't know. Do you get enough new users that you can't verify accounts by hand? _______________________________________________________________ --- Internet Rex 2.29* Origin: The gateway at The Snake (2:280/4312.101) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 280/4312 774/605 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
