There is a company called Interactive Intelligence Inc (known also as I3)
and they have a nicely integrated product. The setup at a previous
employer was such that the server was on a Windows 2000 Server using AD,
SQL Server 2000, and an Exchange 2000 Server. The problem here (IMHO) is
that it is all Windows-based, but the use of it was nice. I was able to
load the client on my laptop and tell the phone switch what number I was at
at any given time and if a call came in and I was "available"
then the phone system would call me at the specified number. Voice mail
was all saved as WAV files (compressed WAV codecs) and then emailed to you.
The system could also change the rings and stuff like that, since the
client was pc-based (Soft dialing). Had we implemented the technology, it
was also capable of VoIP quite nicely. It's super powerful and
customizeable. The big drawback was the cost, both upfront and ongoing,
and the fact that it was totally Microsoft-centric in its support-system
needs.
