I loved that first sentence, I've never heard it put that way. He wrote a
later message indicating he could have been arrested for several different
things, but throwing mud at the police is easier when you leave the pertinent
information out. He said they dropped the charges anyway, but he didn't
mention if he thanked them or not. If they did drop the charges, maybe they
were tired of feeding him or any number of other things. From his original
description, he would be driving a Porshe now.
