HEARING IMPAIRED ATTEND FIRST CONCERT

Simple Plan: Students tune in rockers with aid of new device

   For 11 hearing impaired students of Vancouver Community College, it
was a night of firsts.
   With the help of a Sennheiser device called a
microport, they were able to attend their first concert.
   For Sennheiser, it was the ferst time the microport had been used.
   For Simple Plan, the band in question, it was just a fiust.  Simple
Plan /is/ the first.
   For Trevor, Simple Plan's soundman, feeding the concert sound through
the board to the microport's receiver was a, pardon the expression,
simple plan.
   "I knew it was possible.  Nothing is unattainable," he says.
   "All the guys in Simple Plan use ear monitors.  It's vitually the
same machine, so why not?"
   Roseline Boire of Sennheiser has two teenaged kids who are Simple
Plan fans.
   "None of them has ever been to a show.  The point is, this is
portable.  Skateboarding, mountain biking, they wouldn't have been
able to do before because it was too dangerous.  This is freedom."
   Marc Vincent, Sennheiser's vice president of sales and marketing,
approached the band: "There has been a long relationship with Simple
Plan," he explains.
   Sennheiser does everyy hing from make microphones to install complete
PA's
   "We have a passion for sound.  We want everybody to be allowed to
experience that passion," says Vincent.
   In all, 120 hearing impaired students will attend Simple Plan shows
across the country.  The 11 from Vancouver last night were selected by a
draw.  It's their first concert, but if this night works, there will be
more.
