Mulling over MARNIE TROSCLAIR to STEVE ASHER 07 Oct 2003

Hi Marnie...

> My question: How is the company able to obtain this
> kind of information from banks, credit agencies, and
> telephone companies?
> Richard M. Smith

MT> Good question! When Richard Smith, or Declan McCullagh
MT> or Steve Asher come across the answer, I hope it gets
MT> posted here and I see it.

SA> Apart from a non-geographic phone number, there is very little
SA> on the Goldshield Investigations site to work with. They
SA> certainly purport to supply quite a bit of info about individuals,
SA> phone numbers, addresses & the like, but obscure much of their own
SA> identifying info.

MT> Well, are you up for a game of hide and go seek? :-)

I don't mind. I enjoy finding the dots & connecting them, when I have
the time.

A Network Solutions Whois search for goldshield-inc.com shows it to be
registered to a web design company in Utah. A dead end?

A google search on "1 877 316 6160" finds www.usaskiptrace.com/contact.html
which offers much the same set of "find" services as Goldshield, with the
addition of data - pdas, email, chat logs & the like. Like Goldshield,
there is little contact info apart from the phone number & email address.

A Whois search on usaskiptrace.com is more rewarding, pointing to
Worldwide Investigations, Inc in Denver Colorado.

Here it is possible to branch to a search on "Worldwide Investigations",
which is too generic & needs refining, or to the email address of the
registrant, which produces a result in a genealogy thread, searching for
help in getting his "family history started". This suggests to me that
he is using that request as a pretext to fish for information on a
subject, or that his "investigation" services don't work as well as
advertised.

Cheers, Steve..
