   How hot is hot depends on the fish kept,
   some like it in 80s others in upper 70s.
   A 10 gal can heat up faster then a larger one,
  and  I have to wonder if your tank is near a window/s
  if it is the sunlights heating it up, if not then
  you need keep house at a  proper temp, all the time
  not too cool, not too  warm.
  24 hr air cond.
  You probably have less temperture change if moved to a 20 or 30 gal
  tank.
