HI, Wayne!

Not supposed to be. Fidonet is text only.
>Is there a new ruling on this echo?
Nope. Quite the opposite. Has been text about since inception, when no one
had any digital pix to upload.
> Rather interesting no photos on a photo echo, isn't it?
I'd say disappointing would be a better term but reason arose when nothing
was free and individuals used their personal computer equipment and paid
long distance to exchange mail from one location to another. When the
internet entered the picture many people dropped the expense angle and shut
down their Bulletin Boards, and of course those which charged users a fee,
albeit a small one, most everyone bolted for the 'free' internet. Perhaps
one day we can expect to have attachments but not any time soon. The old
methods are still very much in use overseas. Only the USA has seen such a
huge drop in direct calls to BBS operators, so the monetary costs remain an
important factor to many relay points.
There have been, from time to time, internet sites where a member of our
group set up to handle pictures. We began that with Russ McMillen and John
Neal several years ago. When they no longer had time to keep those sites
going, Karen put up sites one after another as 'freebie' space allowed. As
they went to rentals, it got to be more trouble than it was worth. If you'd
like to set up one, Wayne, I'm sure a lot of us would be happy to use it --
but attachments of any kind are not permitted on FidoNet until further
notice to the contrary. I'm sorry we do not have all the bells and whistles
but no one has volunteered to pick up the costs, world wide, as yet, nor to
administer the accounting for such a venture.
Nice hearing from you, though. Hope all is going well there!
