| subject: | Power Outage Terror Act |
Mulling over LEE LOFASO to ALL 15 Aug 2003 Hi Lee... LL> Despite the denials of Homeland Security, the recent power outage LL> was probably the result of an act of terrorism. For more info on LL> the subject, read the following article by Sollog - LL> http://www.sollog.com/asksollog/2002/0801.shtml LL> The article is date stamped 2002-08-04 13:43:43 PST I did attempt to go there, but it just displayed the root page. LL> After reading the article, it became apparent to me that the most LL> likely scenario as to how terrorists caused the power outage was by LL> attacking nuclear power plants, of which at least six were taken LL> offline. Water was also contaminated as a result of the power LL> outage, and if the power outage lasts much longer, the phone system LL> and internet may also crash. Not to mention our transportation LL> system. I don't know if it was terrorism. It brought back memories of the Auckland power failure a few years ago, which was caused (from memory) by the failure of a major oil cooled cable, which in turn caused all the other main cables to fail under the increased load. My guess is that a "single point" failure somewhere in the US grid has brought down the network in a similar way. Of course, it could be caused by lack of planning for peak capacity as has happened here recently, where the amount of new generators is insufficient to meet demand, while the suppliers try to milk as much revenue as possible from the grid. In hot weather, it only takes the failure of a generator in Victoria to cause diversion from SA, with rotating blackouts as suburbs are intentionally switched in & out of the supply. LL> What else lies in store for America? Could it be that suitcase LL> nukes are in the possession of terrorists? Could nuclear terrorism LL> be just around the corner? Sollog's article raises these LL> questions, and more. The consensus seems to be that the outage was caused by a dim bulb in the White House. :) Cheers, Steve.. ---* Origin: < Adelaide, South Oz.
