THC> I ran into a guy who was just salivating over my unmodified Pro-43, and
THC> offered me a 2005 (with certain unmentionable bands
THC> restored :-) and various other stuff (that was way
THC> over my scanner-newbie head) in trade. This was enough
IMHO, Keep the PRO43...it may only be 200ch vs 400ch in the 2005, but from
what I've read/seen it is basically the same style architecture as its lager
sibling the 2006...especially since you've said that you already purchased a
mobile rig...you will never be able to replace the PRO43 as a handheld, even
though the PRO60 is the newest version, you can't perform that one
modification....
THC> to get my interest, but I've really fallen in love
THC> with the Pro-43 and balked.
As has been said many times in this echo...do what will make you happy,
but I would keep the 43...besides...that 2005 is at least 6 years old...and
your 43 is probably 3 years old? Twice the age...
THC> about the 2005. For a guy who probably will never do anything beyond
THC> perhaps adding data squelch or clipping a diode to
THC> speed up scan rate (i.e. no memory mod or computer
THC> interface) is the Pro-2005 really such a bad choice?
Speed-wise your 43 already runs rings around the 2005...and even if you do
decide to upgrade with the computer interface or memory mods in the future
the pro43 can be hooked up to the CE-232 interface (I've called Hertzian and
downloaded some of the doc files Bill has [Thanks Bill!])
THC> It seems the stuff I'm wanting (not just dream talk of
THC> dual tuners, but stuff I could really use) like CB
THC> reception, broadcast FM reception, a few hundred
THC> channels, sound/data squelch, etc appear to be
The CB reception isn't that swift on the 2004/5/6/35 anyway...I'm not
sure if I've ever really heard anything from CB on the scanners...you can buy
a cheap CB for $30 and even talk on it :)
THC> available in/for the 2005. Sure, I can get all this
THC> in the highest-priced scanners currently sold by Radio
THC> Shack (minus a few bands), but somehow that doesn't
THC> seem as satisfying...
Ahhhhh...but look at it like this, IF you decide you want these other
features by purchasing a new scanner, YOU CAN! IF you decide that you liked
the PRO43 the best and you like that 'hidden band' and always remember how
nice that 43 WAS it'll be too late, 'cause the original 43 is no more...
One last thing...I've seen a 2005 in a pawn shop here in Chattanooga
(Highway 153/Grubb Rd..Hixson area) for $150 asking price, a little rough,
but it gives you an idea that the older 2004/5/6 are starting to show up
around this area.
Just my 2 cents...don't blame me...you asked for comments :)
