Well, we can put this one to rest...the horses had already been on grass
pasture (the other one!) when they broke into the new one. I asked the vet
about this, and he said he didn't think it had anything to do with it. BTW,
all her bloods were negative...even the thyroid. So, this is one of those
"mystery" founders, I guess. The only real factor, I think, was her
weight...which is rapidly declining (g). She's on 1 handful of 14% pellets
per day (enough to put her flex-free in), and grass hay only! Poor
baby...she's miserable (g), along with limited turnout, she doesn't know
what's hit her! She's much better. Farrier came and increased her angles
and cut down her toes some...that along with her lilly pads seem to be
keeping her comfortable, even though we're about to eliminate the bute in a
day or two...that'll be the real test. Her mood is much better! As the pain
has decreased, her natural feistiness has returned (phew!). It's going to be
hard to do this limited turnout thing with her, I'll tell ya!
Oh...in the midst of all this, Shiloh threw a shoe the other day...I didn't
even notice until a day later....guess I'm just concentrating too much of Ms.
Fiddle. Gotta remember to check Shiloh out each day like I usually do!
The kids'll kill me if anything happens to her...especially after they had to
give her a rest for that stone bruise a while back.
Meg
