subject: audio cd player

The Malaysian cd player (Pioneer PD-M450) that I bought two hundred

years ago is falling apart already (cheap junk, mutter mutter.) The

symptom is noise bursts that sound much like grot on a vinyl

record. The basic freq of these bursts is about 2Hz, but there are

smaller faster bursts, and the severity varies quite a lot. It

doesn't actually skip tracks. Yet. With the lid off, some periodic

movement of the tracking head can be seen, but I've no way of

knowing if this is a problem or if it's just an off centre cd.

Any audio techs out there?

Cheers
