DS>I tend to agree with the both of you in some aspects and it certainly is
DS>one of the catch 22's of the sport. I have had considerable exposure to
DS>the "newbie" instructor who managed to run the gamut of education but,
DS>either because they had a lack of experience or some other reason, were
DS>not really fit to be turned loose on unsuspecting novices. On the other
DS>hand I have also had considerable experience with divers of several
DS>thousand dives experience, some with considerable amounts of technical
DS>and scientific experience, who did indeed develop "bad" habits, and by
DS>bad I mean that habit which streamlines something or cuts a corner
DS>somewhere that it should not. Not all instructors that run the minimum
DS>qualification and experience route are poor nor are all experienced
DS>divers with only "basic" level certification guilty of having bad
DS>habits.
DS> Well I'm running on.
DS>Be wet and well.
Yes you may have been running on a bit, but very good reading.
It seems to me if you Dive with the same group over and over you tend
not to see, or just get used to some of bad habits.
I am still amazed at some of the people who jump off the back of a dive
boat.
You Know the basics like, wheres my weight belt, my airs not turned on,
my bc won't inflate (hose not connected).
And yet a very low incident rate.
