Uncle Cecil, an express steam loco driver of the 1940s told me he was always
fascinated with the pitching of his locos when working hard. He would stand
with one foot on the loco and one foot on the tender and marvel that his

foot oscillated left right while his back foot went up and down.
What a nice way to relieve the boredom of an awful job!
