What kind of guitar did you run through them? If I remember correctly,
you're favoring Tele's lately, right?
Oddly enough, I played a 900 series with 5881s in it... It actually
sounded OK, but was a bit to high in the treble range. I killed the presence
and the treble, cranked the midrange and put the bass up a bit and I was in
Marshall heaven. I had very thick, but still somewhat jangly, tones with my
#1 Strat. I ran that thing from a quiet whisper to rumbling rhythms to
screaming leads. At points I had controlled feedback and sustain like I've
never heard before. I wanted to brin the thing home and replace the tubes
with some EL84s (is that the 5881 sub?)... Unfortunately, it belongs to Star
Trax... :/
