Of course Forbidden Planet was a rewritten Star Trek script.  The
negotiations with Desilu had broken down and the script was peddled
elsewhere.  Fortunately, it is still easily available.
Who can find copies of the old radio programs, the Police Gazette
magazines from the turn of the century, or the Strand Magazine from the
1880s?  Not to mention the earlier mythic legends that are just
fragmentary texts here and there.
I don't have time to write spoilers, but this week's Voyager was
certainly a fun tribute to the scripts of the 1940s.
