DB> RT> Begorrah, you are on to something. Family values (and by that I
DB> RT> do't mean just a mommy and a daddy) have been declining for years.
DB> RT> Many kids today have absolutely no remorse for any trouble or
DB> RT> pain that they cause. Thankfully, there are a great many of them
DB> RT> who still do.
DB> Have you noticed the state has decided it knows how to raise children
DB> better than the parents? Could this have something to do with it?
DB> Geeze, descipline you own child by "warming his buns" and you get an
DB> abuse charge... I'm not talking about welts, and bruises... I'm just
DB> talking about a good-old-fashioned fanny reddening.
When there are no consequences, thre is no learning. When there are no
lumps there is no learning. I was not abused as a child, but I DID get my
arse warmed from time to time, and it damaged neither my arse nor my psyche -
indeed it helped me to understand the concept of LIMITS and BOUNDARIES -
cncepts being lost today in an attempt to be a pal to a kid.
DB> When the state gives parents their kids back, I'll bet 10-1 we'll see
DB> better family values and a bit more social order. While I'm at it,
DB> bring back the draft; if only for forestry or some other form of non
DB> combantant national service, for lack of an enemy to point at!
More than 30 years ago, when I was in Germany, their draft worked that
way - EVERYONE went, but some were firefighters, some foresters, some were
even cops, and they served their obligation in those venues as well as
ace-in-
the-mud grunts. My ime in the service did me no lasting harm, and plenty of
good - and the draft that brought me to an enlistment made me make a choice
and take an action that kids today don't have to make or to take. it was a
hard choice, but it was MINE and like or lump it, I knew who the asshole was
that put me in whatever mess I was in - and to see him, all I had to do was
to
go into the bathroom and look in a mirror!
