BK :>Well I first put her in the head set I wanted and just used
BK :>the riens tied back through the saddle rings while I ground
BK :>worked her..
Oh....not so bad!
BK :>I dug out an old set of Side pulls that I'm using only as I
BK :>need to. More then anything else.. I've got to find a bit
BK :>she likes. So I"m going to be playing musical bits this
BK :>weekend since I won't have any time for it next week.
What are you using now? I went through the great bit thing with both Shiloh
and Fiddle. Fid's in a plain, lightweight snaffle at the moment, Shiloh in a
French snaffle. Shiloh came having been put in a copper roller, but I think
she really didn't like it...actually, she'd been ridden in a side pull (?)
prior to any bit at all. I don't think she was ever properly bitted. I'm
even thinking of going with a mullen with her.
BK :>CJ got a 50 minute trot tonight while I was riding with a
BK :>friend.. we were gabbing away about his calvary days in
BK :>Germany just after the war.. It was such a nice ride..
BK :>pleasant but warm day and I had CJ in a slow jog to keep
BK :>her in pace with this fellows TB... I was so involved with
BK :>the ride that after enough time went by.. CJ decided to
BK :>spook to get my attention (Well it was the 4th and plenty
BK :>of firecrackers were going off).. realized how long we'd
BK :>been riding and the spook kinda got her ouchy.. so we
BK :>quite. Longest ride I'd been on her in a long time.. and
BK :>she did work up a lather.
Sounds like fun. One of the things I miss is having someone else around to
ride with. Richard seems to have given it up (g). Thistle used to spook
after a long ride when I was really relaxed and not paying much attention to
her...they have their ways, don't they!
BK :>old.. Tush was fine with the fireworks, chuckle.. she was
BK :>more interested in the 3 year old gelding.. he's kind of a
BK :>cutey. ;)
BK :>
BK :>My daughter the slut! ;)
Nah...just my daughter the mare!
BTW, my friend showed her D-Bar yearling palomino filly last weekend...took
2nd in both color classes, and 6th in western pleasure halter mares and QH
mares.
Not bad for her first time out! I'd never met her trainer, but if I were to
send a young horse out for in-hand training, she's the one I'd use. This
filly was sooooo good and well behaved and the woman treated her with great
kindness. Obviously she'd done a good job.
