Strictly speaking geothermal energy does not qualify as renewable. Half of it
is the result of the cooling down of the fireball that the earth once was and
the other half is caused by radioactive decay in the earth core, Both are
"fossile". It is not something that we can consume in a 100 years, like we do
with the oil and the gas, it will take much longer than that, but renewable it
is not.
Other than that , I am not at easy that extracting geothermal energy on a large
scale will not cause some unforseen nasty side effects. Such as eartquakes...
Cheers, Michiel
