But it isn't, that's my point. There are two speeds, one in one direction
and the other going back. If the two speeds happen not to be the same, due
to line conditions, then each end will see something different. Your modem
isn't lying, is it?
If you do an ATI2, what does it report? Mine says
Last Speed/Protocol 28800/24000/ARQ/V.34/V42b
about my last connection. The connect message said
Connect 28800/Arq/V.34/V42B
at my end, but the other guy would have seen CONNECT 24000 most likely.
Don't forget that the speed can go up and down during the connection, so the
original Connect message and the Last Speed report can be quite different.
