The polling data I've seen over the years convince me otherwise.
Now I know you've seen polls quoted in the papers and on TV that show a
majority supporting gun control, but they never show how those results
were obtained. Gun control questions are context sensitive. If the
question is asked in connection with questions about crime, people
support gun control. If the question is asked in connection with
questions about civil liberties, people are opposed.
The real question is how the issue plays in the context of elections.
The fact is, there are many more people who consider the right to keep
and bear arms to be of such overriding importance that they will vote
solely on that issue. Most of the people favoring gun control are more
concerned with other issues.
