The problem I have with msi is that there are different versions of it. Go
to an older W95/98 system and try one. Other than that I'll agree it's
maybe a bit better to not use an exe file if it can be avoided.

Multiple reasons ranging from deployment to quality. MSIs are easier
to deploy. I also have experienced fewer problems with install and
uninstall with MSI based installs. That's not to say I've not encountered
bad ones but only the non-MSI based installs are have more often had
problems and more serious ones.
