Radio Shack misses the box with these company stores. If they stuck to
franchises, the individual owners would probably do a lot more in terms
of customer service than people who are "just doing a job" working for
a big corporation, even though they do get some commission and incentives.
At one time we had a Lafyette Radio franchisee in town and the guy was just
great. I bought my first communications receivers from him. One was a tone
alert thing and the other was a mobile receiver. I responded to fires from
my house as I was too far from the station. If the call wasn't serious I
turned around and went home or went to the station.
Then I got turned-on to radios in general and got all sorts of stuff from
the Lafyette guy with lots of good advice thrown in. Got one of the very
first Bearcat-Electra scanners to hit the market from him, swl receivers,
CBs, etc. I miss the guy. Going to RS isn't the same at all.
