I don't know what the msftp pack thing is but I've not found anything I
completely trust. Lately I'd say WindowsUpdate has been the best but if you
use it the first or second day a new patch comes out it's still not always
perfect.
The problem is the whole approach that MS is using, patches that contain
multiple files some of which are contained in other patches, few rollup
patches (except for IE) etc.
The way I'd like to see it done is for MS to make a list of all the
different DLL and other files that they include as part of their software,
then a program that scans your machine and checks file for file against the
MS list to make sure you are running the current version for your release
of the software.
This way when they released patches it would just be a matter of using the
current list to scan your machine and then grabbing the current version of
any backdated files, no worries about shared files and such not getting
updated. I know about the worries of updating a shared file may break
something but too bad because on the net the choice is patch or lose the
machine.
