I wasn't really thinking about it making the machine slower, it was more of
a "just more crap to go wrong or be annoying" thought.

Think of it this way, you are on a leaky boat that's slowly sinking, should
you patch the leaks or install big heavy pumps to bail the water out as
fast as it's coming in?
