Dear All,
RE: The illusive Allan Noone:-)
After the local AA Intergroup meeting today where I accepted the post of
PI Liaison officer, it became clear to me that the radical step of a
full name change was not necessary for the proper fulfillment of the
duties involved - and that there was certainly no need therefore to veil
myself even further on these echoes.
Nothing wrong with me is there!!:-) My drinking life was like the
drunken version of the 'dance of the 7 veils' without me having to add
too many more in sobriety:-)
The quote from the introduction of 'The AA Service Handbook on Public
Information' clarified things for me -*phew*-
"All PI work should be carried out with the sole object of
seeing that the still suffering alcoholic receives the AA
message, and in so doing, it is important to remember that the
traditions of AA should be strictly observed. We should, for
instance, remain strictly anonymous at the level of the press,
radio and TV on a personal basis, but that does not mean that we
cannot identify ourselves fully when dealing with the staff of
newspapers, radio or TV stations: it would not make sense to try
to do business with people if anonymity was carried to this
length. After all, anonymity, being the spiritual foundation of
our Fellowship, is aimed at personal anonymity, ie public
appearance and/or identification as an 'AA spokesperson' in or
on the media. We are, however, not 'secret' - those doing PI
service work must be accessible by name and address to those
with whom we wish to conduct our business."
page 1.
So it seems that I can arrange with any media person who knows me to
appear as any name I like, but that I have to remember the preamble that
AA has no opinions and that therefore I NEVER speak on AA's behalf - the
mists begin to clear a bit for me:-)
I'll keep you posted on how I do after the PI committee is formed etc,
might even invite some of you to lead a speaker meeting for us here in
Hull:-)
Thanks for being there for me now that I'm back again in my REAL
anonymous name
Kind regards are sent...
