Depends on what is on the disk. I have one server at work where on one
partition I have user data and on another I have phonedisc which is 7 CD's
worth of telephone number database. I don't care to backup the phonedisc
partition because I have it on CD and it's not critical if it's down for a
day. So I only mirror the user data partition and that gives me more
storage space for other stuff instead of doubling the storage requirements
for the 7 CD partition.
It's a very nice flexibility that I would miss with a hardware mirror setup.
