Wellll... on VOIP, I seriously doubt you would get "true" 56k connections, in
fact if I remember, that was nearly impossible on POTS... Likely 33.6k or 42.6
k or something to that effect.
But for me, at 9600 that is enough to establish a dialup FTS-0001 or EMSI
session, transfer mail, or allow a BBS caller to have that early-90's
experience. It does not cost me very much to keep the dialup modem line.
In Canada, there is a major telco that has a "private VOIP" network that runs
over coaxial cable where they supply a telephony device allowing you to plug
in whatever equipment; and I've seen modem connections go up to 28.8kbps
