subject: grunged message areas

Hello all!
Has anyone experienced problems with Max grunging message areas? Max seems
the likely culprit because I've got my echos grouped, and many of the
affected areas form a contiguous block in a single group in MSGAREA.CTL.
That's really the only thing these echos have in common to differentiate them
from the other 350 echos I carry. This time, about 20 areas had their data
zeroed out. (Symptoms: Max says "Can't open xxxxxxx"; Sqinfo says
"sqvalidate: unable to read sqbase header") The last 10 echos in the group
were unaffected.
The echos affected came from several different networks, and would not have
been tossed at the same time; also, they did not form a single block in
SQUISH.CFG; this suggests to me that Squish wasn't responsible. This is the
second time it's happened, about a month ago I lost all the echos in another,
smaller, group. I've been running Max 3.01 for several years, and this is a
disconcerting new development.
Other info: 2 dialup nodes and one local node, each on its own computer,
networked with Lantastic 6.0, SHARE loaded on all computers, DOS6.22.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
