Bob,
Ayn Rand addressed this rather eloquently in one of the essays in her
collection Philosophy: Who Needs It. I can't remember which essay title has
it. But she directly attacks the:
"We can't know everything therefore we can't be certain of anything."
as well as the rather Eastern:
"The way to truth and understanding is to empty your mind of all
knowledge."
She thinks both of these are attacks on the rational mind as an instrument
for understand the world. I quite agree.
