TO>However, the NRA as an organisation,
TO>is faced with the same choice that we, as private citizens are; we
TO>must get the Clintons out,
NP> Why?
NP> Seriously, why?
NP> Since the President cannot, absolutely, unequivocally, can not write
NP> legislation. That is Congress only. The worse a rabid anti-gun
NP> president should be able to do is veto each and every repeal bill. He
NP> can not, repeat, can not create new anti gun laws.
True, but he can stack the deck in his favor. Look at the folks that
he has appointed to the Supreme Court. Also: every time one of his
pet bills is passed into law he can veto the repeal of such bills
until he is ousted from office. Another 4 years sounds pretty bad
to me. The "assault weapons ban" is just a lot of BS, but we dare
not get used to that sort of BS, lest we let something serious
happen to our rights, as Clinton is pushing for.
NP> The actual source of those anti-gun and other anti-Constitution laws
NP> that the President (Clinton or Dole) would sign is Congress. The
NP> republican majority Congress.
True.
NP> Perhaps, just perhaps, we as gun owners would actually be better
NP> served with Clinton as President then Dole. With Clinton the
NP> republican majority Congress might possibly fight him at every turn.
That is a good point, but to re-elect him would be similar to
saying that we are willing to put up with a figurehead that wants
to disarm the public, and I can't see that as being good. Of course,
Dole is anti-gun too, so let's elect someone that respects the Bill
of Rights and the Constitution. Take care.
