Easier Backup/Restore? In a version of windows with more copyprotection and
drm than any previous version? Have you actually tried it?
First off, for any backup/restore test you must make a base assumption,
that assumption being worst case that the drive or system has been damaged
beyond the point where you can recover it. Pretend you smoked a drive,
change hard drives and try doing a restore. Heck for that matter pretend
you smoked the system, hurricane Katrina type restore from backup..
There is nothing "easy" about a backup/restore procedure for a
drm and copyprotection infected system, nothing. The goals of
backup/restore are in conflict with the goals of drm/copyprotection. The
backup/restore you see in Vista fails to make the initial assumption that
at the least the drive has to be replaced. It is a backup for recovery from
misconfiguration or possibly an accidental format. I would not even trust
it to recover from a virus.
Media Center is a plus? Why so it can tell you "sorry but I can't
record that program you are used to recording because someone set a flag on
it" or so you can't view it after giving up on the above restore and
doing a clean install? I'd rather not have the capability than have a
capability that lets me spend my time and effort only to tell me it's not
going to let me access my recordings.
I'm not knocking vista, there are some fairly interesting improvements but
neither of the above two are what I would consider improvements. These are
features that are going to burn you someday because most folks assume they
are something that they are not, reliable.
