That's exactly what all the backup software I've seen does. The problem is
not the backup software, it's the way Windows works that's the problem.

The Acronis Universal restore basically wipes out all knowledge of what the
previous hardware was and forces it to redetect, that's quite a bit more
complex than just image backup/restore. (I think you can add drivers too,
but I'm not sure, and it still isn't universal restore if it doesn't...)
