On Apr 06 Chris Hogan sez to all:
CH> it is just that a local sysop whom i mail frequently, and when i enter his
CH> name as To: it always gives me his alternat address, rather than his fido
CH> one which i want to use.
This is an ideal use for an ALIAS. Say the guy's name is jack smith, and
the node you want to send his mail to is 1:234/5. In msged.cfg, enter:
Alias Jack "Jack Smith" 1:234/5
Note the quotes, they are required.
When sending jack mail, just enter jack in the TO field, then hit
. Msged will expand jack to Jack Smith at 1:234/5.
If for some reason that doesn't appeal to you, another option is to use a
userlist. This is an ASCII file, named anything you like, with three
important rules:
The Name must be left justified, the address must be right justified
The Name should begin in the first column, and the address in any column
AFTER 40
All names and addresses must be left/right justified to the exact same
margins
I just remembered - there may be a fourth rule - I think the list must be
sorted alphabetically,last name first.
After you generate this ASCII file, then you point to it in msged.cfg like
this (I named my userlist USERLIST.LST)
Userlist f:\comms\bt\userlist.lst,f:\comms\bt\sysop.ndx,(null)
Placing the userlist before the sysop index of the nodelist makes msged
check it BEFORE it checks the nodelist. Here's part of my Userlist file:
AreaFix 396/17
Birner, Bill 396/17.29
Boss 396/17
Boyce, Nick 396/17.33
Gilbert, Glen 157/534
Goldfinch, Langston 396/17
Jones, Ray 396/17.38
Note that all names start in the same column, and all adresses, NO MATTER
HOW LONG THEY ARE, end in the same column.
I do not know of any way to get msged to use a picklist as you describe
Golded does, but maybe someone else here does.
Good luck!
