The difference is that in illich's system, it's natural and doesn't
infringe on people's freedom.  That's what's bad about the current
system- it forces it on people.  The educational system is a 
consumer product more than anything.   It's bought, sold and marketed
in the same way as all consumer products.  It's presented to make you
_think_ you need it.

You should read his book.  It's takes too long for me to repeat
it, and he does a better job.
