TN> Even here in the State of Michigan, USA, it is about 1000km from one end TN> to the other. And Michigan is far from the largest state in the USA. Most TN> western Canadian provinces (and territories), and the US State of Alaska TN> are all larger than Michigan. What I'm trying saying is that if we should drive 1 000 km to Paris we go through Denmark, Germany and/or Belgium/Luxemborg and it isn't long between, say Hamburg and Dortmund in Germany. Only about 300 km and a lot of small villages. And then I look at a map over Canada. Between Yellowknife and Whitehorse it's over 1 200 km without nothing in between, only landscape. So taking a drive to Paris for me must be more plesant then driving in Canada so therefore I think we drive more here and in Canad you fly more. TN> When in Europe, I always had to maintain awareness about the scale of TN> distances. It is easy to think of the scale on US or Canadian maps as TN> similar to the maps of Europe. Unfortunately, I consistently made initial TN> judgments about European distances that were wrong. Isn't this due to you count in miles and we in km? I think I did the same thing when we were driving in England and Scotland as well. Just imagine that it takes only about 3 hours for me to drive through Denmark. Now that I drive after a GPS I can see exactly where I am and it tells me how long it is left and when to arrive in minutes and the exact speed. The thing even talk to me and say when and where to make a turn or change file. Amazing. ---* Origin: . (2:203/614.61) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 203/600 20/11 106/1 2000 633/267 |
