RB>I was wondering what people thought on the subject of police
RB>brutality, a subject I think is relevant to the ASKACOP echo. Rather
RB>than ask a question about one law or where to get a patch or
RB>something, I'd like to get to the heart of the question.
RB>Critics of the justice system say that police brutality is
RB>widespread, that police corruption is even more widespread. With
RB>highly publicized brutality cases, riots in the inner city, what do
RB>you cops think of all this? Do cops unfairly discriminate against
RB>minorities and the poor?
I think it is widespread. Why? Because it happens ALOT!
Not that ALL cops do it...or even most.
Thing is, they are getting PAID to do their job. Big dif from getting
p*ssed at someone for whatever reason. AND, they are supposed to be
trained. Trained to handle it. If they CAN'T...they should quit.
Hey, I get mad at people..yet I can restrain myself. They have an even
greater duty than me.
Perhaps it's that "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts
absolutely". It also has to do with WHO would wish to be a cop. I
wouldn't...because I have ethics. I wouldn't support laws that I
disagree with. And you have to take an oath to support ALL laws.
Some, and maybe most, actually ARE ethical...and DO believe in all the
laws that they are empowered to enforce AND they are truthful and honest
and JUST....I say...GOOD COP! I may not agree with some law, but I'll
honor THAT cop anyway.
I'm a special creature. I both would not take an oath to enforce unjust
laws...OR break my oath. Many people are NOT so truth driven.
I think the VAST majority of cops are good and just people. The big
problem comes when the tiny minority are protected by the majority.
Of course I'll get jumped like Rodney King for saying this...but I'm a
truthful person (and I want the silly "commandeering" thread to go away.
But IT illustrates this macho order-driven cop mindset, too).
So, beat me about the head and shoulders. :-P
(I am certainly ready for the "beating", until the illogic of
totalitarianism rears it's head...I will debate THAT too...but, just as
the commandeering thread proved, some people live in a fascist
state...in their mind. On THAT, I can't debate delusions.)
