| subject: | MFT Size - for Geo. |
From: "Frank Haber" George, want to really get apoplectic? Looky looky what MS created just for you in XP, not that you'll ever use XP. On the one hand, they say that pathological databases with one file for every record will never inflate the MFT to a similarly pathological state - those bad old Win2k days are over.. On the other, they seem to give you this feature.... http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/De fault.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prkc_fil_xhp o.asp or http://makeashorterlink.com/?D24D52D9A I don't think I've ever seen a setting that demands so much crystal-ball action from the administrator since the P-System (preallocate all you'll ever use for anything, for all time). Well, the setting's there now. Maybe we should all just stay far away from file-per-record "databases," and avoid the damp underwear effect? -- -Frank --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 106/2000 633/267 |
