-=> Quoting Dave Middleton to Gary Presson <=-
DM> Following your instructions I subscribed to the Juno mailing list for
DM> a couple of weeks. I have now unsubscribed for a couple of reasons.
DM> First I found the mailing list to be just like so many Newsgroups -
DM> more heat than light. The Fidonet Juno echo provides more meaningful
DM> information and does so in a more civil tone.
Yes that list IS a little contentious at times, and a handful of people
seem to, at times, tend to dominate it, (one of them is a regular on
this list and you may recognize who I am referring to) but I get much
good info and late-breaking news on that list. I don't have web access
so can't compare it to newgroups. Also our net is not interested in
adding the FidoNet Juno echo, so I have to rely on the Juno_Acc list.
DM> Second, messages written using an OMR, such as the Blue Wave that we
DM> both use, is usually better formatted and easier to read and
DM> understand than most messages composed using Internet mail programs
DM> where, more often than not, the reply, no matter how long or how
DM> complex, is inserted in a solid block above the message being replied
DM> to, no matter how long or complex that original message is.
I get frustrated with the laziness of many who are on the Internet
mailing lists, in not using their editors in a polite and sensible
manner. It's not a limitation of their mailers, it is just being unfamiliar
with the netiquette we learned in "other nets". Selective quoting
seems to be an alien concept on the part of most Inetizens.
DM> But that's just my opinion. Thanks anyway, for introducing me to mail
DM> lists.
Sorry you didn't find it to your liking, Dave. I couldn't live without
my many genealogy surname mailing lists.
Best regards, and have a great '98!
Gary
