That ain't gummed up, that's *seized*!
Anytime something's been sitting for a while it couldn't hurt to turn it over
slowly (by hand if you can) to get the oil flowing into places it's supposed
to be.
I wouldn't change it then, though. I'd wait until I got it running and it
got up to normal operating temperature and then change it.

I did that with one car that had problems I couldn't deal with, and would
hate like hell to do it again.

Egads, you too? Between the automotive stuff and the computer stuff and all
those people that want money for stuff like rent, phone, etc. I find myself
needing to do that too. I start a new one tomorrow...
